Note From VOLTA To YOU

Children's home. What bells rang when you read the word?Orphans, Dead and negletive parents ,uncomfortable places where privacy would be the last of your worries? You have a perspective. How true is it anyway? Is that all there is to it. There got to be shades, it isn't black and white! Here is our experience, get yours and let us document it.

Prologue

"And guys, we are to get to the Home together. It is safe then. " That was the Team CEO, Zuuh. Mathare is a Society driven by need. I know ofanother place driven by need, the Jungle. When the State fails as it has it leaves the people to fend out for themselves, they don't deal with possibilities, what's possible is a thing of the classics and articles. To them Necessity is King, it's whatever necessary by whatever means. It's the Wild East, every man curving out their own path(they often jump the fence) and making their own rules as the days go. We received some piece of advice after alighting the Nganya,"In this ocean when you as a fish allow yourself to bleed, better be ready to get comfortable in a sharks tummy! " To put it in a nutshell, ukikaa mbaya unafanywa mbaya. I'm I giving you Netflix Vibes? If I am, you might have watched a movie set in Africa! We got past Good Samaritan Children's Home gate bila kugeuzwa biashara. Scroll up. What did Zuuh say? Exactly! When there are is fear ahead, you just need to Walk Together as a Team!

Activities of the Day

Whoever created these children must have created Ngaira too. God is that you? Pure great vibes. The Children embraced Ngaira's Golden Rule, (Kama Kuna kitu sipendi mimi, ni kuboo! ) I think she's had enough time with the kids.

Our command center was designated to be the Library. There were kids there, sat with with their hands folded, noses buried in reading materials. The kind of people you seat next to during CATs. True to Mandela, education is the leveling tool in the society. Whoever told them this did them right. If it was Teseni, she must have lied it's Nyerere and not Mandela, fear that one! We got into groups where we were to tackle topics and present them to our Brothers and Sisters at the Home. The alignment was in the following order:

A. HIV AND AIDS

  • Zulekha Hanif
  • Paul Kamau
  • Jesse Waweru
  • Esther Morisho (I like this one)
  • Wilson Murangiri

B. DRUGS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

  • Ngaira
  • Mworia Koome
  • Steve

C. HYGIENE

  • Elisha Gichira
  • Beatrice Bahati
  • Gloria Bon

D. BODY IMAGE AND MENTAL HEALTH

  • Meshack Mutinda
  • Sylvia Nyaruai
  • Efedha
  • Kelvin Omondi
  • Joyleen Jerotich

The teams prepped briefly and joined the Sisters and Brothers at the Home in a Hall. Eti kukiwa na wageni inafaa utulie... Not them! Lemme tell you Maina, Ehe the scene was shifting kama Ground. Hehe. Kidogo kidogo ni Dance ya Kudonjo, hujazungusha mguu, washaanguka nayo! Walitesa Meshack si eti nini.

An introductory part is the last thing you need after dance time with Kenyans.

We had been joined by the Nuru Community Foundation and Gifting and Smile Foundation. They were the Kitchen Cabinet in this Kafment. Walitenga and in less than 6 hours the Meal was ready. In any African set up the kitchen and mouth can never know peace at the same time. Stivo, a Samaritan, made it clear that no other business whatsoever was welcomed at this point other than a Prayer Blessing the meal. This made him a Good Samaritan to many as the prayer was conducted , The Pope when the delicacies were being served, I swear if Pope Francis walked into the room when the spoon was half swing he'd be hit with "Who are you? Stivo done did it! " It is suspected he might have been perceived the Messiah as people ate.

We resumed the presentation by the groups. I lied. Or that's what I expected. Nilifikiria niko kadi kumbe the Samaritans had a joker card. If you ask Okello she'll tell you this is having a game at hand. The dance floor was lit with Miondoko. Kulikuwa kumoto! After the DJ and Samaritans wametutisha, OK, wametisha Meshack ya kutosha the groups resumed the presentation. They were well delivered, received, conveyed back to us and we were happy.

We had a cake cutting ceremony celebrating the successful day, October Babies and Nuru's Anniversary.

Elijah Gichira, an esteemed philanthropist in his own capacity, and a member of Team Volta made a promise to Mercy and Sam, both pre-candidates that he will see to it that they get substantial reading materials next year.
